Brewer's Gold is a hop selected by Ernest Stanley Salmon at Wye College in England in 1919 and is the result of pollination of a wild hop from Morden, Manitoba. Despite its early popularity, the advent of high alpha acid hop varieties in 1980 reduced Brewer's Gold's commercial interest.
Brewer's Gold is still a good choice for a bitter finish with spicy and blackcurrant notes.
Brewer's Gold has been used to produce notable strains such as Galena, Nugget, Centennial and many others and is still used for new breeding. It is very vigorous, disease resistant as well as productive.
The tests made in Italy, have an intense aroma and an excellent presence of oils. Used by the American industry for savory spring buds in brine.
